Bird Hunting
Upland bird hunting on the Blackfeet Nation is exhilarating, extremely exciting, and the hunting is absolutely excellent. Upland birds consist of unlimited native Sharp Tail Grouse, strong populations of Hungarian Partridge, and a limited population of Pheasants. The Hun is one of our favorites to hunt, because they hold well and are the fastest game birds in North America. Add some strong prairie winds and Huns can offer a very sporting and challenging hunt.
Bird hunting licenses on the Blackfeet Nation are unlimited and over the counter. The season opens Sept 1 for Hungarian Partridge and Grouse, and Oct 15 for pheasants , and closes November 30. Morning Star accepts reservation request for Sept 15- Oct 21. This delayed opening allows the grain crops to be harvested and hopefully the weather will cool off enough to allow better scenting conditions.
The Blackfeet reservation has lots of resident waterfowl that are joined by huge flights of migrating birds in the latter parts of October and November. We often jumpshoot or pass shoot a few while hunting uplands. We primarily focus on upland birds, although we can set up a spread if you prefer sitting in a wetland instead of walking behind a pointing dog.
Joe Kipp has trained his own setters for over 20 years and he has intimate knowledge of the best habitat, bird behavior, dog behavior and knows how to share a memorable day with you. We have implemented a non competive policy for all bird hunters. If you would like to hunt our beautiful Blackfeet Lands, please contact us for the best possible experience with our talented guides. If you want to hunt your own dogs or hunt behind our's, you are guaranteed to enjoy hunting our wild birds.
